There are two ways the pet insurance carriers use to pay claims on the health insurance you are paying for: Directly to the veterinarian and reimbursement to you. When you make a claim, there is a schedule which includes a flat fee. This flat fee schedule is called a benefit schedule. This is based on the diagnosis or surgery that was done by your veterinarian. The benefit schedule is usually available Read the rest of this entry »

The rule of thumb is that smaller dogs live longer than larger dogs. This I know is not always the truth. I had a male German shepherd who lived to be sixteen years old and a Cocker Spaniel that lived to be sixteen and a half before she died when hit by a car after jumping the gate. Therefore, as you see the age of the dog does not always mean they will have poor health at a certain age. Dogs live long and healthy lives when they are well cared for and loved by you the owner and companion. The statement females live longer than a male was proven wrong with my dogs as well.

Signs of Dog Health in Older Problem Dogs

Some dogs show no signs of old age, while others may show signs early. The proper care and proper vet care along with love and exercise will help a dog live a healthy and normal life without signs of old age up to the day they leave you. White muzzles usually indicate aging in dogs, but this does not mean they are not youthful. Even older dogs will continue to act like a puppy.

Every dog owner can tell a different story about how to tell a dog is aging, and not one will sound the same. No one thing except for the white on the muzzle will match your neighbor’s dog or anyone else’s. Some dog’s go blind, go deaf and lose control of his or her bladder, but this does not happen to every dog. Some older dogs lose the elasticity in their skin and will have a grease look as they become older.

Care of Dog Health in Older Problem Dogs

If you have a dog that shows signs of old age you need to know how to care for the dog to make life more comfortable. When activity lessens, less food intake and water intake prevents overweight and bladder control problems. Dogs may lose some teeth requiring you to soften their food or change to a soft dog food so they can maintain good health.

Some dogs will experience kidney failure, heart attack and some more serious complications of infections or diseases. The immune system seems to break down as the dog ages. The risk of catching a cold or another type of health disease rises in an older dog because of the immune system. As everyone realizes, a healthy and happy dog may remain entirely healthy without any problems when provided care and regular check ups from the vet.

As with older people who like walking to stay young and flexible, so does the dog. The quality of life makes a dog live a long and happy life. Even the shortest walk or jaunt to the beach will keep Fido in shape throughout his or her life. Grooming and nutrition play a big role in the health of your dog, therefore, the best for dog might cost a little more. However, the love and companionship is well worth the expense.

Sell your Horse Products Online!
 by: Shannon Margolis

When you have horse products to sell, finding the best and most efficient marketplace can be a challenge. You what to know where people will go to buy horse products, which venues are the most popular, well known and reliable. When you sign or contract with a place to sell horse products, or any other products, you want to be certain that you have the best access possible to your potential customers. Horse products can be particularly tricky to sell because sometimes you may find that you must educate your buyer before making the sale. Unfortunately, it is a sad fact that some people will, on a whim, get a horse without knowing the full responsibilities involved in its care. They fumble along but have no idea what products they should have to care for their animal. So, they buy horse products indiscriminately and often in error. When you sell horse products, not only are you responsible for selling exactly what you advertise, but it is also a wise and ethical move to offer advice, direction and support to your customer. This not only enhances customer services and makes you a more desired seller, it also helps to keep buyers informed about care of their purchases when they have neglected to take the time to become educated on them.

When you sell horse products through a written advertisement, print or online, be as descriptive as possible. Vague ads may deter people who want to buy horse products. If you have an English saddle, include the size and type (cutback show saddle, jumping saddle, etc.) and your location. If you are advertising via online classifieds that do not separate ads by state or region, try to place your location in the headline. If you cannot put your location in the headline, place it in the ad where it is easily seen. While some horse products can be shipped, some cannot, or it is more cost effective to find horse products closer to your own location. Many people who want to buy horse products will look at price of item and location is usually next.

When you set out to sell horse products, make sure that you are protected in the event that something goes wrong with the shipment or sale. Customer service should be a top priority as it will give you a good reputation. The horse community is very tight knit and horse people are known for referring good sellers and providers. If you get in with a few horse owners you are sure to increase your business.

Many of you know that raccoons are known to adapt very easily to a changing environment that is why many people have problems with the damages caused by these creatures. Raccoons have inherited a bad habit: they vandalize garbage cans, fish ponds and also your very own kitchen pantry due to the fact that many houses ( especially in United States ) have a pet door which for a raccoons is like an invitation.

Besides this, raccoons invade attics, chimneys, porches and other similar locations, not to mention that the cities and suburbs offer these creatures a developed underground roadway system for those intelligent animals who use these storm sewers. These raccoons not only invade your privacy but also they cause damage, for example, they can get into crops or just by simply occupying your chimney they make annoying little sounds that eventually will drive you crazy.

The first thing you should do is to find out if you are truly having problems with raccoons because many people have the tendency to affirm that raccoons are the one’s to blame for the damages but in reality, the one’s who should be blamed for causing these problems are dogs, cats or other “friendly” animals.

If you don’t have the possibility to observe these animals directly the best thing you could do is to identify their tracks. In order to do this you should use the following : flour, nontoxic powders and also cornstarch, these will help you to check out footprints on hard surfaces. A useful tip : raccoons which use chimneys or attics usually begin to make noise when it is getting darker and they stop doing this in the morning, when the sun makes its appearance. The sounds that raccoons make when they are moving can help you detect them more easily. Also, if you hear purring noises then you should know that young cubs are present. Usually, you will hear these noises when their mother comes back to the den.

A wise thing you could do if you have problems with raccoons is simply wait; in other words, many of the problems made by raccoons ( for example: occupation of a building ) resolve themselves within a few weeks or if you are lucky, in a few days. If cubs are also causing you problems then you should know that they won’t leave your attic until they are nine weeks of age because until then, they can’t take care of themselves so they won’t venture in an unknown environment where they will be helpless.

When it comes down to chimneys and attics if yours is uncapped then raccoons will probably use it for denning but also for giving birth and raising cubs. If you assume that after a while they will leave, the best thing you should is that you might try using some harassment techniques so that you could “hurry” their departure. Also, you might as well leave the attic lights on or place a radio tuned to a talk-show and leave it a high volume.

Once you are certain that you got rid of all the raccoons, the first thing you should do is install an approved chimney cap so that in the future, raccoons won’t be able to invade your privacy. A very important note is that you shouldn’t use fire or smoke to make the animals come out of the chimneys because by doing so, you will most likely kill the youngsters as they aren’t able to evade on their own.

When it comes down to yards and gardens, in order to discourage garbage vandalizing you should place cans at the curb when the day of garbage pick-up has arrived. Another thing you could do is that you should secure the lids using bungee cords or weights. Don’t forget that raccoons are often attracted by birdseed and suet and they usually cause a lot of damage to garden fruits and also vegetable gardens , especially corn and grapes. Garden vandalizing will often occur when the foods are ready to be picked so you should be more attentive during those periods.

All in all, raccoons can cause a lot of problems so some safety precautions should be taken in order to avoid these problems which can become very annoying if ignored for a longer period of time.

Summary: Getting rid of raccoons can become a very frustrating thing to do if you don’t take the best decisions. Patience and clever thinking are a “must” when confronting with such a delicate situation.
