The Pomeranian is a cute little breed of dog similar to other little breeds. They make wonderful housedogs because of their loving nature and the way they behave when around people. They act like a little child who wants everyone to know they are welcome. These fluffy little dogs can be a bit aggressive if their owner is upset or in trouble.

Their cute fox like face and pointed ears with soft and silky looking hair make them a beautiful show dog as well as a house pet. The eyes are blackish colored with a bright glimmer of shine. The teeth are very sharp yet thin by nature. The tail resembles the tail of a Pekinese as it crusades forward over the back of the dog. The average height is up to twelve inches with a weight of about fifteen to twenty pounds.

The top Pomeranian dog health problem is the teeth. This concerns owners because if the teeth break or fall out, the dog will have no way to consume food. Feeding hard dog food helps to strengthen the teeth and gums, but many people make the mistake of feeding only soft dog food, which does not benefit the teeth or gums in any way. The overall health of the teeth needs to be clean and you need to take every precaution against tooth decay.

The Pomeranian dog breed does suffer some health problems, but not all bloodlines are at risk. The Pomeranian dog health problems might be a slipped stifle or dislocated patella, which is a small bone by the knee joint. The slipped stifle affects the movement of the dog and can cause pain and depression in the little dog. If you notice signs of leg problems, contact the vet for further tests to determine the exact cause of the problem.

The Pomeranian dog health problem during birth can be saddening if proper knowledge and care is not given. When a female is ready to give birth, a vet may be required due to the size of the female. The puppies will be extremely small fitting three puppies into a man size hand is common. Extra care for the puppies because of their size requires helping the mother with daily care of the puppies. These puppies require extra care until the age of three months in order to properly grow and achieve adulthood.

The ears and eyes need cleaning on a daily business. This dog breed loves to go for walks, but like all little dogs, they do not need to take long walks, as they tend to get tired because of their short legs. These little pups strive with love and touching as they grow into beautiful little companions.

The Pomeranian dog health problem follows suit with other canine breeds. They are susceptible to many other health conditions such as skin disease, allergies, infections and parasites. Keeping the dog healthy requires proper grooming and diet along with exercise.

Chicken Care Basics 101

You already know that taking care of your fowl is one of the most crucial things to take into consideration when you intend to raise chickens in your own backyard. If you know how to keep and raise chickens well, you will never ever have any problems feeding your family with healthy chickens and freshly laid eggs right straight from your own garden. Here are the basic chicken pests that will plague your chickens coop that you must be watchful of:

1. Mites.
Scale Leg Types. If you look closely at your chickens’ legs and feet, and they will be covered in scales when they should be clean and smooth. These are the scale leg types mites. These leg mites live underneath the scales, causing them to come away. If you see any symptoms of this happening, then, a couple of times a week, you should be dipping your chickens’ legs in surgical spirit until the problem clears.

Red Types. The red type mites are the cause of one of the more common chicken problems. dusting your chicken house liberally is highly recommended. You will be able to locate these mites living in the small gaps and openings in a wooden chickens coop. Although they do not inhabit the chicken’s body, they do come out at night, crawl onto the chickens and feed off their blood like most parasites. The effect on the birds is they start looking anaemic and stop laying eggs and their health will drastically go down the slump. These mites are about 1mm in length, are red and very slow moving. There is a powder you can buy over selected veterinarian stores and you can dust your chickens coop liberally to keep these red mites away.

2. Roundworms.
Roundworms are the most typical pests and they will lay their eggs inside the birds’ intestines via their droppings. These look like small round balls that stick to the chickens’ droppings, then fall to the ground where they go through a period of maturation. They are then picked up by the chickens, resulting in their developing inside the intestines. Gapworms and Hairworms can also cause your chickens problems. It’s advisable to carry out a worming program on your chickens, certainly twice a year. Flubenvet mixed into your birds’ rations over a week is a good and probably one of the best ways of eradicating parasitical worms, but can be acquired only via a vet’s prescription.

African Pygmy Hedgehogs How To Care For Them

There Are Many Positives To Keeping An African Pygmy Hedgehog As A Pet, We Have Listed Them Below!
African Pygmy Hedgehogs are very fast becoming one of the most popular kept exotic pets in the UK.
They don’t take up huge amounts of space and exercise outside the cage.

They are not noisy animals so no fall outs with you neighbours (if you have them),
We have not noticed any distinct smells as long as you keep them clean.

They are not difficult to feed and you can even find hedgehog food from online stores, or cat food from local pet stores, chicken based is best and high quality without fillers.

You do not need to walk them like you do large animals, you can purchase them a hamster wheel they will have hours of fun.

You can find different colours, normal, chocolate and albino, other colours are being worked on by UK breeders.
African Pygmy Hedgehogs Care Sheet

A good healthy hedgehog can live for 3-6yrs. Please see our information guide below on what to buy for your new Baby Hog!!

Your new hedgehog will have to live indoors unless you can arrange heating in a nice shed or outside. The perfect temperature for Hedgehogs 65-80f (18-26c) which is the average house temperature, anything below 45f (7.2c) and it is very risky as they may go into hibernation which is dangerous for them, they can be bought out of hibernation but sadly it might be too late. Your new African Pygmy Hedgehogs will also need on average 12 hours per day of daylight, you can achieve this with either natural day light or using an artificial light.

African Pygmy Hedgehogs can be kept on their own or two females togther can work, never two males they will not get along and a male and female will obviously multiply, they are more than happy on their own.
The perfect housing for an adult African Pygmy Hedgehog is an indoor rabbit cage 36″ by 12″ as they need lots of exercise, being nocturnal they will be up all night. It has been said that African Pygmy Hedgehogs will use their play wheels during the night and some walk upto 10 miles in their wheel.

Litter Training Your African Pygmy Hedgehog

You will need to put a litter try in their cage, if they keep making a mess outside of their litter try keep putting them back in they will pick it up, give

them time and patience. You can fill their litter tray with clumping cat litter or sawdust, natural cat litter is the safest.

Housing Materials For your African Pygmy Hedgehog

African Pygmy Hedgehog will need a nesting box, a water bottle (rabbit or hamster bottle etc), feeding bowl and dust free sawdust, if it isn’t dust free it can cause serious problems and clog their bladders, also make sure it is not made out of cedar (the fumes can be highly toxic). They can eat chicken cooked throurougly, baby food that is chicken based, and any good quality cat meat that contains high content of chicken. This will aid their digestion.
You can also use a cat biscuit formulated from chicken and some stores will even stock hedgeghog food, it is always worth registering your interest in hedgehog food otherwise there will never be enough demand for the manufacturers to consider making it.

They will eat livefood such as insects that can be bought from pet shops or exotic/reptile shop like mealworms, crickets and wax worms, some of these stores are on the internet too. If you really do not like the idea of feeding live food you can buy htem frozen or dried but we believe fresh is best!

Fruit and vegetables are allowed on occasions, also low fat yogurts and cooked egg. .
A fresh supply of drinking water should be readily available at all times

Do not feed your African Pygmy Hedgehog insects from the garden. They are also thought to be lactose intolerant please do not give them cows milk, if you needed to give a baby hedgehog milk then it should be goats milk.
Do not feed peanuts as they can get trapped in the roof of their mouths.

Offer your baby hedgehog a full bowl of food daily, once you see the amount eaten daily you can give this amount every night, avoiding wastage but also making sure no old food is left in their feeding dish
A typical adult African Pygmy Hedgehog weighs 12-18 ounces.

African Pygmy Hedgehogs Playtime

Toys, like children they love to play with toys. The most important purchase you can make is their wheel, they will spend amazing amounts of time in the wheel and this in turn is fantastic exercise and will stop them becoming bored. Make sure the wheel is plastic and not wire, we don’t like wires as their feet could get caught and damaged. Provide plenty of tunnels, noisy toys and balls etc, you can get hamster toys just make sure the tunnels are big enough, also give them a hiding area where they can sleep and go for peace!

They love to be cuddled by the family, as with all animals the more time you spend handling them the tamer they will be. If you can get them out for time in the evening their spines will go down so you and the family can stroke them like you would other pets.

African Pygmy Hedgehog Behaviour

Hedgehogs are seldom aggressive, in most cases they only ball up because they are scared. They rarely bite through aggression or fright, I have not been bitten yet! If they start licking your fingers there may be something tasty on them so licking is best stopped to avoid an accidental nip
Self anointing is a very common hedgehog act and its very amusing to watch. When they taste something new like food or an object they build up a frothing lather in their mouth then doing the most amazing contortions they spread the lather on their backs.

Study: Health Industry Accounts for Half of Blue Dog Campaign Donations

A new study shows more than half of the $1.1 million in campaign donations given to the group of right-leaning Democrats known as the Blue Dog Coalition came from the pharmaceutical, healthcare and health insurance industries. The Center for Public Integrity says the Blue Dogs received more donations than any other congressional grouping over the same period. On average, the Blue Dogs received over $62,000 more from the health industry than other Democrats. The Blue Dogs have played a key role in the standstill over healthcare reform since voicing objections to a public health insurance option last month.
