Feline Urine Blood – What To Do When The Urine Contains Blood
There is little doubt that seeing feline urine blood can be shocking to most pet owners. We all know that the presence of bloody feline urine is a sign that something is amiss with your pet. There are many causes for this physical sign, and knowing what is at the route of the problem should be the first course of action.
Anyone who has done any research on this subject will already know that there are many articles available on the subject of feline urine blood. The most common cause of this problem is urinary tract infection (bacterial cystisis). Usually this is not an emergency.
If infection is the cause than antibiotics will help. You could also prevent the pr

oblem from recurring by changing your cat’s diet to canned food (for increased hydration) which will cause your cat to urinate more often. A natural supplement may also help the effectiveness of the urine in removing bacteria and stone forming crystals from the body.
If the bloody feline urine is dark or you see clots of blood, this is a problem that requires immediate treatment. Call your veterinarian immediately or seek medical help as it could be a sign of something more serious.
One cause of this problem, that is often overlooked is injury. Most cat owners know the behavior of their pet well enough to know when something is wrong. If you notice feline urine blood take a few minutes to think about anything that might have happened to the animal as it pertains to injury. For instance, has a new dog moved into the neighborhood? Has your cat been missing for hours or days? Has the cat been involved with children who may have been too rough with it? Was the animal hit by some type of vehicle? You may notice that your cat’s gait, or walk, is different. This often occurs when the animal has an injury to its legs, hips, or back. These types of injuries will often include bloody feline urine.
The only reliable way to know what is happening is to have your cat checked by a professional. In some cases, your cat may need x-rays to rule out any broken bones or damaged organs. Lab test will often be run to determine if the cat has any type of infection. Lab test can also be used to determine if the feline bloody urine was caused by poisoning.
The main point to remember is that feline urine blood can be caused by any number of health problems. It is unwise to automatically assume that cat bladder stones or some other disease process is the culprit. When you see feline bloody urine, make an appointment with the vet. Do not take chances with this condition.
