Have a great day!
My dog has a open wound due to swelling on leg, vet. treated him 5 days sent him home no care instr.?
Dog should probably be on at least a full 7 days of antibiotics. Also probably should be on an anti-inflamatory or steroid for the swelling until that's under control. As far as the open wound, it should have the ability to drain as needed. Even when my dog got a VERY LARGE cut on her (accross her chest and down her leg) my vet left an opening in several places for drainage while he stitched the rest. When another dog I had visited the neighbors dogs and got into a fight she wound up with a pretty deep gash on the the inside of her leg and vet told us NOT to wrap it so it would be able to drain (we were concerned about dirt and bacteria but it healed just fine – ofcourse with antibiotics)
If you've severed paths with this vet (as you said you had it out with him), you should probably contact another one and at least get their advice, or better yet, have the dog seen by the new vet to get their opinion on the healing process and what care you should be taking. I'm quite sure your dog should still be on antibiotics. But since I personally am not a vet, just have own experiences to base upon, you really should their advice, whether it is the one who originally treated or a new one. Good luck. I hope your dog starts feeling better soon.
