How do you care for a 2 year old Shitzu Dog?

I'm going to get a 2 year old Shitzu dog, that has been very well taken care of by a family. My concerns are the following:
1.) How will a male cat and a girl dog shitzu get along?
2.) When leaving the house should I cage her or block off an area for her because she's so active?
3) When leaving the house should I put paper down just in case? Accidents can happen.
4) Over all health care. Bath, teeth, ears, hair cuts, well visits.
5) How to controll barking at doorbells and people
6) Should I take to a trainer
7) When to give doggie treats
Adjusting to a new family

And anything I might of missed. I really would like to get this right the 1st time around. And give this dog the best home ever. Help please……
